A Day In The Callie, our apprentice!

We'd like to introduce you to our apprentice, Callie!

Callie joined Red Shoes Accounting in September 2020. Starting an apprenticeship in a pandemic isn't the ideal start to any career, but Callie  is proving to be a fast learner and an absolute asset to the team!

Training and development is a cornerstone in our commitment to excellent customer service and building a strong team. So, we thought we'd ask Callie a few questions about her accountancy apprenticehip for the benefit of others who may be thinking about their future career and study options!

Why did you decide on accountancy for a career?

The reason why I decided on accountancy as a career was because I always felt that Maths was my best subject at school and the one, I found the most interesting. After speaking to different accountants at career fairs, I realised that I wouldn’t have to go to University - which I knew I definitely did not want to do, so it seemed like the perfect job for me.

What daily tasks do you get up to?

  • Filing Tax Returns
  • Writing letters
  • Writing up bank statements
  • Bookkeeping on QuickBooks
  • Accounts schedules

How are you getting along with your apprenticeship qualifications?

I have just started my Level 4 apprenticeship and my first exam is going to be Financial Statements of Limited Companies. I have only had a couple of lessons, but so far it is going well.

What benefits do you think there are to completing an apprenticeship, instead of going to University?

I think the main benefit of completing an apprenticeship rather than going to University is that you can learn and gain qualifications at the same time as earning money which meant that I could start saving properly towards my future.

Another benefit is that you do not have to pay any learning costs, debt or student finance which is the complete opposite of University.

What’s your favourite part about working with Red Shoes Accounting?

My favourite part about working with Red Shoes is that everyone is really supportive and helpful, I have never been afraid to ask for help with anything.

What is your proudest achievement so far?

My proudest achievement so far is probably passing my Level 2 and Level 3 AAT qualifications. When I first started my Level 2 at Sixth Form I found it quite difficult. I knew how much work I still had left to do for Level 2 and 3, but now I am so proud of myself for getting through both levels which have lead me to getting an apprenticeship!

What is the best bit of advice you have been given?

The best piece of advice I have been given is that it is okay to make mistakes as that is how we learn.
